Your Personal Website Address

Hi Everyone,

Have you ever wanted to tell your friends and family where to find your wedding website but found yourself trying to remember a long web address?!? Your not alone - we've had many users mention this to us as one of the most frustrating aspects of creating a wedding website.

Now we are delighted to announce the launch of our new service that allows any user to reserve their own personal web address (e.g. www.susanandjohn.com) for their SharedWeddings website. You can now check the availability of your desired personal website address and if the address has not already been taken by someone else you can reserve it for your wedding website. Once you have reserved your website address - it's easy to tell your family and friends where to find your wedding website!

To reserve your personal website address, just click on the link that appears on the right hand side of the page as you browse through your wedding website and follow the instructions given. You can choose to reserve your web address for 1, 2, or 3 years.

Do let us know if you find this service useful.

SharedWeddings on KillerStartups!

We've just learnt that SharedWeddings was reviewed on KillerStartups last week! Its great to see that we might be considered as a killer startup and we are working hard to make the site even better and roll out the list of new features that are in the pipeline……we wont reveal anything just yet but lets just say we launched SharedWeddings as early as possible with the minimal features - so watch this space for updates.

Automatic Facebook Updates

It seems that almost everyone is on Facebook these days! So one thing that we thought might be useful is that every time you make an update (e.g. new blog post, new photos, create a poll etc.) to your wedding website - a note automatically appears on your facebook profile telling your friends about the update.

So to enable this function in your Facebook profile - login to your Facebook, on the left side bar - under 'Applications', click 'more' and then 'Notes'. Once on the notes page, select the 'Import a Blog' or 'Edit Import Settings' link on the right hand side of the screen. In the text box for the web URL enter:

http://www.sharedweddings.com/rss-username

Note: you must replace the end of the URL with your own SharedWeddings username e.g. if your SharedWeddings user name is sarahandjohn - then your URL is http://www.sharedweddings.com/rss-sarahandjohn

From now on - everytime you make an update to your wedding website, it will automatically be shown in your Facebook profile - allowing your friends to go straight to the latest updates on your wedding website.

If you try out this new feature - leave us a comment below and let us know what you think of it - we’d love to hear from you!

The Beginning of SharedWeddings!

Six months after coming up with the initial idea to create SharedWeddings, we officially went live on July 16th 2007! The site has been up for a couple of months so we decided its time we started a blog to record our progress and plans for the future.

Right from the start, we’ve had quite lots of interest in the site from couples all over the world preparing for their wedding and looking to create their free wedding website. The thing is that you can do all the software testing in the world but…..there’s nothing like getting real users to test drive a new website. So its been a hectic first couple of months - mostly involving ironing out the initial bugs that were still in the system and tweaking things to run more smoothly on the site. We’ve reached the point now where we are pretty confident that everything is working as it should on the site and can now start to look to the future plans for the site.

We’ll try to keep this blog updated reasonably regularly and plan to post up all our announcements about the site here.

…and if your wondering what all the fuss is about then go checkout the website at:

Bye for now,
Thomas
